Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, and stakeholders
In compliance with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA)—a federal law enacted in 1986 and enforced through EPA regulations (40 CFR Part 763)—we are providing our mandatory annual notification regarding asbestos management activities in our school district.
What Does This Mean?
-
Some of our school buildings may contain asbestos-containing building materials (ACBMs)—such as aging floor tiles, pipe insulation, ceiling materials, or other construction components. These materials are not dangerous if they are intact and remain undisturbed.
-
The district has developed and maintains an Asbestos Management Plan (AMP), which includes detailed information about:
-
The location and condition of any identified or presumed ACBMs.
-
Response actions (e.g., repair, encapsulation, enclosure, or removal) when necessary.
-
If any asbestos-related actions—such as inspections, repairs, or abatement—have occurred or are planned this year, those are also included in the notification.
District’s Commitment
Our district remains fully committed to maintaining a safe learning and working environment by:
-
Adhering to federal, state, and local asbestos management regulations.
-
Conducting regular inspections and maintaining strict operations and maintenance procedures for all known asbestos materials.
-
Providing annual asbestos-awareness training to custodial and maintenance personnel and notifying short-term contractors of any asbestos locations before they begin work.
-
Ensuring only licensed and accredited professionals conduct higher-risk asbestos response action
